So, when I decided to do a “Game Show Podcast”, I had an idea about the format, but felt that nobody would guest on the podcast, suddenly, that became the format, and somehow I have people willing to show up and talk about game shows with me! It is a ton of fun, and I will obviously continue to do more (this is the most fun I have had on the internet, and a really fun podcast to make, so I might as well continue)
But with a Patreon, a “premium content” - what was that going to be? What is worthy of a “paywall”? I can’t do alternate episodes, I think they are all good in one form or another, I can’t do 2 a week, and risk burning myself out of all the podcasts available on YouTube.
And honestly, the idea came - from you, the readers and audience and guests.
When I ask people what game shows they want to cover, constantly people request “MXC” or “Most Extreme Elimination Challenge”, and I have to break the bad news that “Unfortunately, that isn’t a game show, that’s a written-out sketch using footage from Takeshi’s Castle” and that is when the idea hit me - things in popular culture inspired by, or based on game shows.
From the “Jeopardy” episode of Cheers, to that Ellen Ride at Epcot that also has Jeopardy, to things like the WWE Price is Right thing with Bob Barker. Game Shows are a part of popular culture, and so in this PREMIUM PODCAST - we explore things with the aesthetic of game shows, that might not be game shows.
You Don’t Know Jack, while did become a game show on ABC, started out as a PC CD-ROM game, so it’s on the list, same with Smash TV, same with anything that has a smarmy game show host as a character.
And yes - The Joe Schmo Show also counts in this (It’s not technically a “game show” either, because it is written out to be a prank on the mark, but it counts in this!)
I don’t know when the first episode is up, or what ideas to go through, but I am creating a list of them, and I am not going to say “every saturday night live sketch”, it might just be, whatever is their game show skit of the week, or something.
